The Ekiti State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Dr Olabimpe Aderiye has credited the achievements recorded in the Education sector to the high premium value placed on the sector by Governor Fayemi.
Dr Aderiye stressed this while speaking on “S’etigbo?” ( Have u heard?) , a radio program aired simultaneously on all radio stations in Ekiti State which was created by the State Government to inform Ekiti people about the policies , programmes and achievements of Dr John Kayode Fayemi’s administration as well as serve as feedback mechanism .
The Commissioner said, steps were taken by the State Government which began with the Free and compulsory education in public primary and secondary schools in Ekiti State through the abolition of levies and tax imposed on pupils in public schools by the immediate past administration.
Dr Aderiye said another notable mention is the Payment of Bursary to qualified applicants of Ekiti extracts in the Law School yearly. She said, one other remarkable point is that, Ekiti State is the only Southwest state to benefit from the World Bank Adolescent Girls initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) towards improving secondary education opportunities among girls.
She highlighted other areas of continued commitment shown by the State Government, not limited to; Inclusion of Ekiti state in the new World Bank Assisted project tagged Innovation Development and Effectivenes in the Acquisition of skills’ (IDEAS) for Government Technical Colleges which was facilitated by the Governor.
Also speaking , Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Affairs , Chief Niyi Ojo said that the Fayemi led administration further showed its commitment to boosting the Education sector by initiating a continued payment of SSCE and UTME examination fees for all qualified students in all public schools in the State, free feeding for all public primary schools pupils from primary 1-3.
He noted that the Government Constructed four (4) new Model Colleges in Ado Ekiti in honour of; Senator Ayo Fasanmi, David Oke, Prof. Banji Akintoye and Deji Fasuan ,also renovated and commenced academic activities at the Ekiti state College of Agriculture, Isan Ekiti.
In her own contribution, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media , Mrs Mary Oso- Omotosho stated that, Knowledge Economy being one of the Five-Pillar Development Agenda of Dr Fayemi’s administration meant that Education was always going to be a priority of his administration.
