It is no news that Nigeria is a wealthy country, rich in human and natural resources, our country is blessed and surely would be great someday.
The problem with our country today is ‘oligarchy.’ Just a small number of people control the nation, and our democracy is as confusing as it can be.
Despite being run with a democratic system of government, the people are not really in power, they have been manipulated into giving up their constitutional rights with poverty, religion and ethnic divide.
Today, I would only be addressing the ethnic divide, I won’t even be giving a full analysis of how the Nigerian people are easily distracted with something as irrelevant as ethnicity, but just going to share an interesting list of all Chief Of Army staffs in Nigeria since 1999.
President Buhari most recently appointed Lt Gen Attahiru Ibrahim, as the Chief of Army staff and as expected, detractors began to play the ethic card, selling it to a populace that has been misinformed and miseducated for decades.
The detractors, are indeed members of the oligarchs, but for whatever reasons within their cycle, they are not currently in power.
They see the Nigerian people as pawns, and are ready to manipulate them to any length, with any tool, just to get back into power.
Should Buhari’s non appointment of an Igbo person as Chief of Army Staff be our headache?
Is it worthy of note that the previous COAS, Tukur Yusuf Buratai is from Borno state?
For me the issue of tribe or region, or state should be the least of our worries…the economy, educational standard, security, making our system corruption proof…should worth more of our time.
Back to the COAS talk.
According to records, apart from Olusegun Obasanjo – who appointed a new COAS every two years – other presidents appointed people from their region into the sensitive post.
So why is Buhari’s case unique, and why do detractors want us to shy away from the real problems?
Why are they always eager to feed us with seeds of ethnic divide?
