Naira Marley was born in Agege, Lagos State, Nigeria but later moved to Peckham, South London when he was only 11-years-old.
According to him, as a young lad, he never planned to become an artist, though he had the childhood ambition of becoming an MC and Voice Over artiste.

“I didn’t plan to, I didn’t even mean to go into the studio. My plan was people freestyling around me were so talented. My plan was to invest in them. So eventually, we went into the studio, we had so much time and they made lots of records, you know. But we had too much time on our hands, I made just one song.
“By the time we left the studio; imagine we had 10 songs, but it was my song that everybody was singing, so I was just baffled, you know. People kept forcing me to send them the song… Everyone around me already knew the lyrics. So, one day we were chilling when one of my friends with a camera told me to shoot a video (for the song) with the camera.
“We shot the video unplanned and it had like four million views in three weeks. Basically, that’s how I got into music and I can’t stop.”

Azeez Fashola ‘Naira Marley’ was arrested by the EFCC on the 10th of May 2019 (which happened to be his birthday), in relation to internet fraud.
He was arrested along side Zlatan Ibile, Rahmon Jago, blogger Biesloaded and one other.
When the other four were released, Naira Marley remained in detention and was later charged to court on 11 count.
Speaking on the development EFCC spokesman, Tony Orilade, said;
“There is overwhelming evidence against Naira Marley; so we can’t afford to release him on administrative bail like Zlatan and the three others.
“That Zlatan has been released does not mean they have been discharged and acquitted. Naira Marley is still in our custody and will be charged to court soon and we will make the charges known in an official statement soon.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission preferred 11 charges bordering on fraud against, Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley, for alleged credit card fraud.
The charges with suit number FHC/L/178C/19 were filed before a Lagos State High Court.
The charges read in part,
“That you, Azeez Adeshina Fashola, aka Naira Marley, and Raze (still at large), on or about the 11th day of December 2018, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, conspired amongst yourselves to use Access card 42658840359191132 issued to persons other than you in a bid to obtain gain and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 27(1)(b) of the Cyber Crimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc) Act 2015 and punishable under Section 33(2) of the Same Act.
“That you, Azeez Adeshina Fashola, aka Naira Marley, and Raze (still at large), on or about the 10th day of May 2019, within the jurisdiction of this honorable court, with intent to defraud possessed, counterfeit card 4921819410257431 issued to Timea Fedorne Tatar and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 33(9) of Cyber Crimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc) Act 2015.”

Controversial musician, Naira Marley on Saturday took home his first major award at the 2020 Soundcity MVP Awards, held at the Eko Convention Center, Lagos Nigeria.
The award ceremony was hosted by South Africa’s finest media personality Bonang Matheba.
