Niger State Governor and Chairman North Central States Governor’s Forum (NCSGF), Abubakar Sani Bello is grieved and shocked by the sudden death of Nigeria’s former Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Nasiru Mantu.
In a condolence message, the Governor commiserates with the government and people of Plateau State describing the death of Senator Mantu as a huge loss to the entire country.
He described the former Deputy Senate President as an astute politician and a realist whose selflessness and foresight had injected dynamism in the nation’s nascent democracy noting that his absence will greatly be missed.
“We are really touched by the news of the demise of the former Deputy Senate President, indeed he was one Nigerian, a true democrat who genuinely believe in the unity, indivisibility and corporate existence of the country”.
The Governor stated that, although saddened by the loss, it was incumbent on all humans to acknowledge the inevitability of death stressing that late Senator Ibrahim Mantu will continue to be remembered for his service to humanity.
While condoling his Plateau State counterpart, Simon Lalong and the immediate family of the deceased, Governo Sani Bello prayed Allah to grant his soul eternal rest and reward him with Jannatul Firdausi.
The former Deputy Senate President, Nasiru Ibrahim Mantu who, according to reports, died on Tuesday morning, was born on February 16,1947.
As a full time Politician, the late Senator Ibrahim Mantu was at various times the National Chairman of defunct Liberal Convention, Director General of National Republican Convention Presidential Campaign, National Chairman of defunct People’s Democratic Alliance as well as the National Publicity Secretary to the defunct United Nigeria Congress Party among others.
The former Deputy Senate President was elected Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, representing Plateau Central Senatorial District from 1999-2007, under the platform of the PDP, and became Deputy Senate President fro. 2003-2007.
He was also chairman of several Senate Committees.
